colectivo LASTESIS
Workshop & Performance
ChileThis story begins with a video that went viral in 2019. During a protest in Chile, a group of blind-folded women and queers pointed to the structural problems underlying domestic and in stitutional violence against women and queers. Their vociferous protest was subsequently translated into numerous languages and performed by women all over the world. The protest was instigated by the feminist-activist collective LASTESIS. The four women behind the initiative, Sibila Sotomayor, Daffne Valdés, Paula Cometa and Lea Cáceres, feel that feminist theories should be experienced as creative resistance. In pursuing this aim, they have become world famous. Time Magazine listed the members of the collective amongst the 100 most influential people of the year 2020.
In this year’s festival, colectivo LASTESIS will participate in the lecture series Talking on Water and host a workshop which will conclude with a performance of «RESISTENCIA». «RESISTENCIA» translates the ideas of feminist authors, such as Judith Butler, Paul B. Preciado and María Lugones, into a performance which will be presented on the Zentral stage by the 40 workshop participants from Zurich. Along with oppression and pleasure, death and celebration, denunciation and resistance, the workshop will focus on the right to a non-violent life. (II)
