Lullabies
SwitzerlandWhat happens when classic fairytales meet with electronic sounds? What effect do those ancient stories have on so-called adults when presented in a electro-acoustic guise? Camilla Sparkss, aka Barbara Lehnhoff, has found touching answers for those questions in her performance «LULLABIES».
Lehnhoff, an artist originating from Canada with a love of experimentation, drew her inspiration for «LULLABIES» from the phenakistiscope technology. The Ticino-based musician has produced picture disc vinyls which, in combination with two mirrors, project analogue visuals while record players produce music. The sonic centre of «LULLABIES» is a mellotron, an analogue sampler, with the help of which Camilla Sparksss lets her audience slip into dream-like states.
The experimental arrangement of technology and voice, sound and image may sound complex, yet the result works in completely intuitive ways. The interaction of those different elements creates a very unique little world, in which Lehnhoff’s storytelling awakens the inner child of the listener. «LULLABIES» takes you on a journey through a wondrous universe releasing you back to reality with long-lasting repercussions.
