Visiting Zurich during Zürcher Theater Spektakel
Zurich is a relatively small city and easy to get around. If you are visiting for the first time, here are a few tips how to explore the city before and after your visit to the festival site…
NEIGHBORHOODS
The Zürcher Theater Spektakel takes place in neighbourhood of Wollishofen, a quiet residential district outside the city centre and directly by the lake. The festival site is within easy from the city centre by public transport or by bike.
Other nice areas worth visiting are the old town of Zurich or the former industrial area in the west of the city, close to Hardbrücke. For restaurants and bar visits, we can recommend the Kreis 4 district and its legendary Langstrasse. Nice cafes for breakfast or cake can be found in Kreis 3, around Idaplatz.
MOBILITY
The best way to move around Zurich is by foot, bike or public transport. There are trains, streetcars, buses and ships. You can buy a day pass valid for all means of transport. There are also many bike rental companies in the city. Uber works very well in Zurich. And you can always order a cab calling this number: +41 44 444 44 44.
SWIMMING
Lake Zurich
- Seebad Enge (close to the festival site)
- Strandbad Mythenquai (next to the festival site)

SHORT EXCURSIONS
There are many beautiful destinations around Zurich. A nice excursion is a boat trip across Lake Zurich. Here you can find the different routes and prices. Also a trip to the city's local mountain "Uetliberg" is worthwhile. After a short hike, you can enjoy beautiful views over the city. You can get there by train or by cable car.
ART
Since the city’s theatres are on summer break in August, we recommend a few museums and other exhibition spaces: The contemporary art centre Löwenbräukunst with the exhibition spaces Kunsthalle, Migros Museum, Luma Westbau and numerous galleries is definitely worth a visit. And so are Kunsthaus with its extensive collection or Haus Konstruktiv, a museum with a focus on concrete and conceptual art. Here you can find a collection of all alternative art venues and artistic ‘off’ spaces. Finally, don’t miss out on visiting the cradle of Dadaism: the Cabaret Voltaire in the old town.
