Wild Things

Switzerland

Rumble, rattle, bang. We are in a children’s room. Or more precisely: under the blankets of a huge bed. From here, Swiss director Corsin Gaudenz takes us on a journey. «Wild Things», his latest production, is an adventurous theatre musical for a young audience.

Four wild creatures – played by the outstanding Swiss musicians Raphael Loher, Giulin Stäubli, Manuel Troller and Marena Whitcher – roam through fantastic worlds: Parts of the on-stage drum set gradually grow into an entire forest. The grand piano becomes a ship, on which the protagonists eventually land on a mysterious island. And the slats of the bed frame come in handy as spears to ward off the monsters they encounter.

«Wild Things», for which Gaudenz and his team have revived their own childhood behaviours, is a fun-filled approach to boredom and anger which also dwells on friendship and loneliness. Without words, the four musicians explore the limits of togetherness with the audience – with many surprises on the way! (zts)
