Wanjikũ Mwawuganga
Roots
KenyaIn her solo «Roots», theatre maker Wanjikũ Mwawuganga deals with crossgenerational traumas and experiences of alienation. What do intersectionality, vulnerability and care work mean in the context of birth and motherhood? How do they shape memory, family life and the attitudes of young feminists in present-day Kenya? Using story-telling, audio recordings and photographs from family archives, the artist unites four generations of women on stage and creates an intimate space in which the audience gets to witness the remembrance work between mothers and daughters.
