Reading group with Ogutu Mũraya

Reading Édouard Glissant: Opacity, the ocean and relational imaginaries

The artist and storyteller Ogutu Mũraya hosts a reading group to explore the decolonial ideas of French-Caribbean philosopher Édouard Glissant (1928-2011). Together, the group reads and discusses excerpts from «Poetics of Relation» to familiarise with the author’s concepts of relational belonging, opacity and the «passage from unity to multiplicity», as well as with the theme of the ocean in Glissant’s work. Mũraya also introduces his project «The ocean will always try to pull you in» – a growing composition of semi-fictional stories which give a deeper understanding of the complex historic as well as lived realities and create new imaginary worlds.
