Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças
Encantado
BrazilFruits, sea creatures, celestial bodies, insects – Lia Rodrigues, currently one of South America’s most prominent choreographers, has the members of her Companhia de Danças wrap themselves in colourful clothes and assume continuously-changing forms. While «Fúria» – presented at the festival in 2019 – depicted a powerful appeal against the violent injustices in South American countries, «Encantado» is a colourful celebration of tradition, life and nature, the positive energies of which leave a lasting impression.
Lia Rodrigues has drawn from her immediate environment for this artistic reenchantment of the world: Linen cloths – a central element of the performance – are worn by the homeless for protection against the cold of the night and are an integral part of Rio de Janeiro’s cityscape. Rodrigues, who rehearses with her company in an art centre founded by her in one of Rio’s biggest favelas, turns the textiles into something truly enchanting. «Encantado» leaves all thoughts of our human existence behind and conjures up the magic of nature.
