Vacancy
The Zürcher Theater Spektakel, a cultural institution of the City of Zurich, is one of the most important European festivals for contemporary performing arts. It takes place annually during 18 days in the second half of August in temporary venues on the Landiwiese as well as in the Rote Fabrik and in the City of Zurich. Every year, over 100’000 visitors enjoy the vast programme of dance, theatre, art, music, discourse, street art and gastronomy.
The Zentral stages are an important part of the festival: they offer low-threshold access to street art and a wide range of contemporary performing arts up to spoken word. At the same time, they act as a hub for street art on the entire festival site. With the DeZentral programme, the festival takes a step out into the neighbourhoods of the City of Zurich and aims to explicitly address a greater diversity of the city’s population.
To complement our team as of January 1, 2023, we are looking for a

(20% EACH ON AN HOURLY RATE, ANNUAL WORKING TIME)
In collaboration with the curatorial, administrative and technical team of the Zürcher Theater Spektakel, the two of you will be responsible for:
- Curating the Zentral stages as a platform for street art and low-threshold formats
- Administration of the programme for the outdoor space
- Research and acquisition of artists and groups, including fee negotiations, budget management and contract preparation
- Organisation of hospitality
- Preparation of the programme for both the Zentral stages and DeZentral as well as planning of the street art on the festival site
- Research of potential venues for DeZentral shows within the City of Zurich
- Organisation, setup and support of the contact point for curated and uncurated artists during the festival
- Providing information for festival communication

WE ARE LOOKING FOR
For this versatile position we are looking for
- ideally a duo that already has joint work experience in curating and organising events
- two open-minded and proactive personalities who have experience in the field of street art as well as curatorial experience and who are networked in the scene of independent artists
- people with diversity competence, who have an idea of how they would like to display the Zentral stages also as a platform for marginalised artists and communities
- creative minds, who do not lose their sense of what is feasible
- people with experience in leading small teams
- resilient personalities with a flair for organisational tasks, who can get down to work and keep an overview even in hectic times
- flexibility in dealing with irregular annual working hours (March-August significantly more than 20%) as well as occasional absences for visioning trips
- English is required, French or Spanish are an advantage
- home office is feasible
WE OFFER
The position is for the duration of three years with an option to extend. The introduction and handover will be done by the previous co-leader until the beginning of the festival 2023.
We offer you a challenging and interesting task in a committed team and in the environment of a renowned international festival. The work is not evenly distributed throughout the year. The focus of the activity is from spring with a clear peak in summer; the 20% are to be understood as overall annual working time. As our premises are limited, we are unfortunately unable to offer a permanent workspace outside of joint meetings.

Individuals are not precluded from applying, but preference is given to joint applications as a duo.
We welcome all applications – regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, disability, age, and sexual orientation and identity. We encourage members of underrepresented social groups or people with migration biographies or experiences of discrimination to apply.
Please email your completed application as a PDF to sw@theaterspektakel.dont-want-spam.ch no later than November 7, 2022. Interviews will take place early in December.
